Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 30, 2026

This policy applies to LifeTally. Tally Hoops has its own privacy policy.

Summary

Life Tally keeps what you add on your iPhone and in your own private iCloud. There is no account, we run no servers that hold your data, and the app contains no analytics, no ads and no tracking. One thing is recorded outside your iCloud: a purchase, under an anonymous id, by RevenueCat.

What the app stores

  • • People and events: names, birthdates and other dates, a minute of birth, the day you met, how someone is related to you, the kind of day an event was, and a Remembered mark with the date you gave it. A gender saved by an earlier version is kept as it was. Stored on your iPhone and synced through your private iCloud.
  • • Photos you choose for a person, one or many: smaller copies, stored on your iPhone and in your private iCloud.
  • • Letters to a day: the words sync through your private iCloud. A voice recording stays on the iPhone it was made on and is never uploaded.
  • • If you turned iCloud off in an earlier version of Life Tally, that choice is kept and nothing syncs.

Photos and camera

With your permission, Life Tally reads your photo library to show your children side by side at the same age, your photos from this date in past years and the days you photographed that carry a name, and to set a person's photo. It finds photos by their dates. It adds a picture to your library when you tap Save to Photos or take today's photo in Side by Side, and it deletes a photo from your library when you choose Delete Photo on it and confirm. Your library is never uploaded to us. You can change either permission in the Settings app under Privacy & Security.

Contacts

With your permission, Life Tally reads the names, birthdays and small photos on your contact cards to show who you can import, and a card's full photo when you import that person or add them through Siri. It reads nothing else from a card. The people you choose are stored like anything else you add; the rest of the list is not saved.

Location

With your permission, Life Tally reads your location while you use the star finder. To set the hour of your own dusk and tonight's sky, it reads the last location your iPhone already holds, if that is less than a day old. Your location is used on your iPhone and is never stored or sent anywhere.

Microphone

With your permission, the microphone records when you record a voice into a letter, and at no other time. The recording stays on that iPhone.

Apple Intelligence

Two features read your words with Apple Intelligence. Add several reads the people and birthdays you type or paste, and a photo of a written date if you attach one. Ask Your Calendar answers questions about the people in your calendar, so each question carries their names and dates. A request runs on your iPhone or, when it needs a larger model, on Apple's Private Cloud Compute, which Apple built to keep nothing after it answers. We never see these requests. Every number and date the app shows is worked out by the app's own code, never by a model. Notification wording is polished on your iPhone alone.

Notifications

With your permission, Life Tally schedules notifications on your iPhone for named-day mornings and Today's Tally, as you set them under Notifications. We send no notifications ourselves and never use them for marketing.

Widgets, Siri and Spotlight

The widgets read a copy of what they show from storage the app and its widgets share on your iPhone: your name and birthdate, the next named days, and copies of the photos they show, including photos from your library taken on this date in earlier years and Side by Side's pair. People with their photos, events and named days are added to your iPhone's search index so Spotlight and Siri can find them. None of these copies leaves the iPhone.

Purchases

Purchases go through Apple under your Apple ID. Life Tally uses RevenueCat to record the purchase so it can be restored on every device you sign into, and it checks with RevenueCat when the app opens. RevenueCat receives the purchase and an anonymous id the app creates: never a name, a date or a photo. We never see your payment details.

Analytics and tracking

The app contains no analytics, no advertising and no tracking, so there is no App Tracking Transparency prompt. The services it reaches are Apple's (iCloud and Apple Intelligence) and RevenueCat.

This website, mawapa.app, counts visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics. It sets no cookies, doesn't fingerprint your browser or follow you to other sites, and only shows us totals, such as how many people viewed a page. It's separate from the apps.

Children's privacy

Life Tally is suitable for all ages. We collect no personal information from anyone, children included; the purchase record holds no name.

Earlier versions

People and events from an earlier version of Life Tally move into this version when it first opens. The earlier version's copies stay where they were, on your iPhone and in your private iCloud, so another iPhone can bring them over too. When you delete a person in this version, their earlier iCloud copy is deleted as well.

Data requests and deletion

Your data lives on your iPhone and in your private iCloud, not with us. Deleting a person, event or letter in the app deletes its iCloud copy as well. We hold no copy to hand over or delete. For any question, email [email protected].

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page and, for material changes, surface a notice in the app.
